Trump on accepting results: ‘We’re going to see how things play out’

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump demurred Tuesday on whether he would accept the results of the election, saying he’d wait to see “how things play out.”

“Hopefully, they’ll play out well, and hopefully we won’t have to worry about it, meaning hopefully, we’ll win,” Trump said of election results on Fox News.

{mosads}”I want to see everything honest. … We have to see how it is. Hopefully everything’s going to be on the straight and up,” he said.

Trump has previously refused to commit to accepting the results of the election if Hillary Clinton is declared the winner, speculating that widespread voter fraud could cost him the election.

Trump stunned observers during a debate last month when he refused to say whether he would accept the election results.

“I will look at it at the time,” Trump said. “I will keep you in suspense.”

Trump later remarked that he would accept the results “if I win,” then said he would accept a “clear election result.”

Asked on Fox News what he would do if he loses the election, he said “I’ll have to see under what circumstances.  Honestly look I want everything to be really, really smooth and really, really good.”

“I understand the importance of that. I was very good in history. Frankly, I fully understand it is very important in so many different ways.”

Trump also said of the transition of power between presidents “I love it. I think it’s important. I think it’s very powerful.”
