Trump wins Pennsylvania

Donald Trump is projected to win Pennsylvania, sealing a huge upset in a state that had gone blue in the last six presidential elections.

{mosads}Trump held off Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in a state that many had written off for Republicans. The GOP nominee trailed Clinton in nearly every poll in the Keystone State, though polls there tightened in the final weeks of the race.

The victory is a huge boon for Trump as he seeks to improve his path to winning the White House. Pennsylvania gives him 20 electoral votes.

Trump long thought he could put Pennsylvania and other Rust Belt states into play, arguing his working-class, anti-trade-deal message would resonate in the rural parts of the state that have been hurt by the decline of manufacturing and the coal industry.

He made several trips to the state in the race’s final days.

As Trump started to close the gap in the Keystone State, Clinton made a late effort to hold it, staging a rally in Philadelphia on the eve of Election Day with her husband, former President Bill Clinton, President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama.

But in the end, turnout in Philadelphia wasn’t enough to overcome Trump’s strength in other parts of the state.
