The man who was detained at a rally on Saturday when Donald Trump was rushed off the stage by Secret Service agents said he was attacked by supporters when he held up a sign protesting the Republican presidential nominee.
{mosads}The man, identified as Austyn Crites, reportedly held up a sign during the rally that said “Republicans Against Trump.”
“All of a sudden, because they couldn’t grab the sign, or whatever happened, bam, I get tackled by all these people who were just, like, kicking me and grabbing me in the crotch and just, just beating the crap out of me,” Crites told KTNV, CNN reported.
“And somebody yells something about a gun, and so that’s when things really got out of hand.”
A Secret Service spokesman said someone yelled “gun” during the rally, but no weapon was found.
No charges are being filed against Crites, who was led out of the rally by police officers, Secret Service agents and SWAT officers, according to CNN.
The GOP nominee came back to the stage some minutes later.
“Nobody said it was going to be easy for us, but we will never be stopped. We will never be stopped,” Trump said when he came back.
“I want to thank the Secret Service. These guys are fantastic.”
Trump’s past rallies have been frequently interrupted by protesters, who are normally removed from the event.
