National poll: Clinton leads Trump by 5 points

Hillary Clinton leads Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump by 5 points in the latest national tracking poll released early Sunday.

Clinton, the Democratic nominee, leads Trump, 48 percent to 43 percent, among likely voters in the ABC News/Washington Post tracking poll. The pair were tied at 46 percent last week.

{mosads}A majority of Clinton’s supporters, 55 percent, said in the poll that they are supporting her instead of simply opposing Trump.

By comparison, a majority of Trump’s supporters, 51 percent, said they mainly supported him out of opposition to Clinton.

Clinton’s edge in the poll is higher than other national polls, which have found a tightened race between the Democratic and Republican presidential nominees.

Clinton held a 1-point lead in a McClatchy/Marist poll released Saturday, and a 2-point lead in a Fox News poll.

Clinton and Trump have battled in a series of battleground states including Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire as the pair look to shore up support before Election Day on Tuesday.

The Washington Post/ABC survey of 1,685 likely voters was conducted Nov. 1–4 via landlines and cellphones and has a margin of error of 2.5 points.
