Michigan poll: Clinton’s lead down to 4 points

Hillary Clinton’s lead over Donald Trump in Michigan has narrowed to 4 points, according to a new poll.

The Detroit Free Press/EPIC-MRA poll released Friday shows Clinton (D) leading Trump (R) 42 percent to 38 percent among likely voters. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson has 5 percent support.

{mosads}The previous Free Press poll in late October showed the Democratic presidential nominee leading Trump by 7 points, 41 percent to 34 percent.

Friday’s poll showed that 13 percent of voters are undecided, a figure that is unusually just four days before the election, according to the survey.

Michigan, which awards 16 electoral votes, has long seemed like a safe state for Clinton, but both campaigns have made recent moves there following a series of polls showing a closer race.

Clinton was averaging a nearly 12-point lead in the state as recently as Oct. 21, but she now leads on average by 4.6 points, according to the RealClearPolitics polling index that includes third-party candidates.

Clinton is campaigning in Detroit on Friday as she seeks to avoid an upset in the state. Trump campaigned in Michigan on Monday and running mate Mike Pence campaigned there on Thursday.

The latest poll released Friday is based on surveys with 600 likely voters conducted Nov. 1-3 and has a margin of error of 4 points.
