“Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough is warning Hillary Clinton not to take victory for granted.
{mosads}”Hillary Clinton’s greatest danger is complacency by people who have been listening to the media saying this has been over for a month,” the MSNBC host said Friday.
“I suspect that’s a reason why Hillary Clinton said, and keeps saying, this race is going to be close. Do not take this for granted.”
Scarborough said journalists shouldn’t “keep their heads buried in the sand just because reality does not line up with their own personal prejudices.”
Polls have shown a tightening race in recent days and weeks. The Democrat leads GOP nominee Donald Trump by less than 2 points in the most recent polling averages after leading by more than 7 points in mid-October.
Trump got a momentum boost after FBI Director James Comey sent a letter to lawmakers last week telling them the agency would be reviewing newly discovered emails “pertinent” to its investigation into Clinton’s private server.
Scarborough warned that elections “aren’t static.”
“Voters don’t have their feet in cement. A lot of early votes already out there so that has cemented a lot of this,” he said.
“But if momentum continues in Donald Trump’s direction over the next five days, people like Nate Silver and the bookies may be right. There may be a chance.”
The Morning Joe host cautioned that a week is “a lifetime in politics.”
