Clinton hits Trump on nukes in ‘Daisy 2.0’ attack ad
Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign is hitting Donald Trump for comments the Republican nominee made about the use of nuclear weapons in a new attack ad featuring an actress from the famous 1964 “Daisy” campaign spot.
{mosads}”This is me in 1964. The fear of nuclear war that we had as children, I never thought our children would ever have to deal with that again. And to see that coming forward in this election is really scary,” Luiz says in the new ad, “Daisy 2.0.”
Monique urges voters to support Clinton, the Democratic nominee, because the “stakes are too high for you to stay home.” That same tag line was used in the 1964 spot.
Trump’s rhetoric on nuclear weapons has garnered ample criticism throughout both the Republican primary and the general election.
Trump once said in an interview with Bloomberg that he wished to remain “unpredictable” when it comes to nuclear policy and refused to rule out using nuclear weapons against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). During a primary debate, he failed to define the nuclear triad, one of the military’s defense strategies that incorporates the delivery of nuclear missiles from land, air and sea.
The ad will run during several battleground states’ nightly newscast, including Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Arizona, Florida, Iowa, and Nevada, during the states’ nightly newscast, according to the Clinton campaign.
The original Daisy ad was aired only once by President Lyndon B. Johnson’s reelection campaign against Sen. Barry Goldwater (R-Ariz.).
