Secretary of State John Kerry said Sunday that the FBI has not contacted him regarding the latest probe into Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s use of a private server while she was secretary of State.
{mosads}”I haven’t been notified of anything, no, I haven’t been requested of anything, no, I’m not aware of the department being requested, and I have no further comment to make,” Kerry said during a news conference in Ireland, as first reported by Reuters.
“As an American citizen and former nominee of the party, there is a lot I’d like to say about what is going on, but I can’t and I am just going to remain out of this,” added Kerry, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee.
On Friday, FBI Director James Comey sent a letter to members of Congress alerting them that the agency found additional emails that may be related to the investigation into Clinton’s server.
The emails were discovered during a separate FBI investigation into former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s (D-N.Y.), who allegedly sent sexually explicit messages to minor. Weiner is married to longtime Clinton aide Huma Abedin; the couple separated earlier this year.
The Clinton campaign has called on the FBI to release additional details about the emails. The campaign of republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has used the letter as a talking point to attack Clinton on the campaign trail.
