Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager, Robby Mook, on Sunday said the FBI’s decision to review emails “pertinent” to the investigation into Clinton’s private email server likely won’t cost the Democratic presidential nominee the election.
“I don’t think so,” Mook said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “We have over 50,000 volunteers out there; we’re seeing record early-voting numbers. … We’re feeling really good about this record turnout.”
{mosads}FBI Director James Comey announced in July he would not recommend criminal charges over Clinton’s use of a private email server while serving as secretary of State.
On Friday, he sent a letter to Congress saying the bureau discovered emails “pertinent” to the investigation and would be reviewing them.
The new emails were reportedly discovered during a separate investigation into former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) over an alleged online relationship with a 15-year-old girl. Weiner is the estranged husband of longtime Clinton aide Huma Abedin.
Mook said Sunday that Abedin fully cooperated with the investigation that concluded this summer.
When asked if the campaign could clear some of the situation up by releasing Abedin’s emails, Mook said it would be “premature” for the campaign to take any action before the FBI director clarified to whom those emails belonged.
“If these are emails from Huma Abedin, we don’t know if they are, but if they are, we assume they’d have to be redundant because she already turned over all of her emails,” he said.
Mook said Comey does have a “long and distinguished record,” noting that’s why people were “particularly puzzled” about the letter Comey sent Friday with very little information.
He called for the FBI to release all of the information regarding the new emails.
“I think the issue here is if he doesn’t come out and get all of the information on the table, he’s going to let anyone, any conspiracy theory take the day,” Mook said, while touting the progress of the Clinton campaign.
“We actually felt a surge of support and momentum as well. So we’re feeling fine in that regard. But again, let’s just get all that information out there so that the rumors and the hypotheticals can be put to rest.”
