Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s campaign manager on Friday hailed the FBI’s stunning decision to reopen its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server.
{mosads}“A great day in our campaign just got even better,” Kellyanne Conway tweeted on Friday, including a story about the reopening of the email investigation.
On Friday, FBI Director James Comey sent a letter to lawmakers saying that his bureau learned of the existence of more emails “that appear to be pertinent to the investigation.” The emails were found “in connection with an unrelated case,” Comey wrote.
The FBI’s decision throws a curveball into the already tumultuous presidential race with just over a week until Election Day. The bureau’s move could alter a race that is already tightening both nationally and in several battleground states.
Trump and other Clinton critics have hammered the Democratic nominee for her handling of classified emails and use of a private server while secretary of State.
Back in July, Comey criticized Clinton’s handling of classified information but did not recommend criminal charges.
The FBI director could not offer a timeline of how how long it would take the bureau to assess whether the new emails are “significant.”
Conway’s tweet came minutes before Trump took the stage at his Friday afternoon rally.
Trump has repeatedly said the investigation did not go far enough.
He said Friday he has “great respect” for the FBI’s decision.
