Donald Trump’s presidential campaign is pressuring House Republicans not to waffle in their support for the party’s nominee ahead of Election Day.
“I know we are less than 11 days to the 2016 election. But it is imperative that we continue to drive Republican support for the top of the ticket,” Scott Mason, the Trump campaign’s director of congressional affairs for the House, wrote in an email to GOP offices Thursday, according to The Washington Post.
“That means we need your direct, strong support for the Trump/Pence ticket,” he continued. “Now is the time. No waffling, no week [sic] knees. We strongly urge you today to make a statement – take a stand – and step out for the Trump/Pence ticket.”
{mosads}Two Republicans familiar with the message confirmed its authenticity to the Post.
Mason said Republican solidarity is necessary to keep Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton out of the White House.
“Hillary Clinton has given us, and continues to give us – and the country – every reason on earth that she is not worthy of winning this election,” he wrote.
The Post said the Trump campaign did not respond to questions about how many offices Mason contacted or if he received any responses.
Trump faced outrage from fellow Republicans earlier this month after a 2005 recording of him talking about kissing and groping women without their consent became public. Twelve women have also come forward accusing Trump of unwanted sexual advances, allegations he has denied.
The accusations, though, have hurt Trump’s support among Republicans. A number of prominent Republicans withdrew their endorsements for him and others said they would not vote for the nominee.
Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) declined to retract his endorsement but has said he would neither campaign nor defend Trump.
