The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is praising Rep. Bob Dold (R-Ill.) for bucking Donald Trump, the party’s presidential nominee.
{mosads}The House GOP’s campaign arm released an ad backing Dold that touts him as “an independent voice who stood up to Donald Trump months ago.”
While many Republican lawmakers and candidates have used ads to distance themselves from Trump, it is unusual for the NRCC, which is charged with electing Republicans to the House, to use that kind of messaging.
Dold represents Illinois’ 10th District, which includes Chicago suburbs. He is facing a stiff challenge by Democrat Brad Schneider in a competitive House race.
House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) told Republicans earlier this month he would no longer defend Trump and would focus on House elections instead.
The Hill has reached out to the NRCC for comment.
