Sanders calls Trump a ‘political coward’ over voter suppression report

Sen. Bernie Sanders on Thursday blasted Donald Trump after a report that the Republican’s presidential campaign has three “voter suppression” drives in effect to lower turnout for Hillary Clinton.

“Anybody who is suppressing the vote because they know that those people will vote against them is a political coward,” the Vermont Independent and former White House candidate tweeted.

{mosads}A senior adviser to Trump’s campaign said in an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek that his team has “three major voter suppression operations underway.”

The efforts have a goal of discouraging votes from white liberals, young women and blacks — three blocs that overwhelmingly favor Clinton.

The Trump official said the GOP nominee’s campaign has highlighted Clinton’s onetime support for the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal to try to suppress the vote by “idealistic” white liberals who may have supported Sanders in the primary.

Trump has also tied his campaign to women who have accused former President Bill Clinton of sexual assault to try to decrease turnout by young women.

Nowhere in the reported comments does it suggest the Trump campaign is doing anything illegal.

Clinton’s campaign has been putting heightened focus on getting people to get out and vote.

The Democratic nominee’s campaign released a video from campaign manager Robby Mook warning the American people that Trump could still win the White House and cautioning Clinton supporters against becoming overconfident.
