Celeb chef campaigns for Clinton, slams Trump

Hours after Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump touted the opening of his new luxury hotel in Washington, D.C., a chef he sued for pulling out of a deal to put a restaurant there slammed him over his views of immigrants.

{mosads}”Today I could be in a certain hotel in Washington, D.C., opening a restaurant inside,” celebrity chef José Andrés said at a Tampa, Fla., rally on Wednesday with Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

“But here I am, not even mentioning him because we are not supposed to mention him until he does apologize to every Latino, to every Mexican, to every woman, to every veteran, and to any person that he has insulted.”

Andrés pulled out of the restaurant deal after Trump’s remarks last year about undocumented Mexican immigrants, spurring a $10 million suit by Trump and an $8 million countersuit by Andrés.

During Wednesday’s rally, Andrés, a native of Spain, attacked Trump for his anti-immigrant rhetoric throughout the campaign.

“A few years ago, my friends, I had a restaurant, a Mexican restaurant. Yeah, no rapists. Great, Mexican working-hard people,” Andrés said, in a jab to Trump’s presidential announcement when he called Mexicans “rapists.”

Andrés also criticized Trump over reports that the GOP nominee does not pay his taxes, in addition to his Chapter XI filings. But he focused mostly on Trump’s rhetoric about immigrants and minorities.

“We are all immigrants at some point in our family’s past, trying to find a place to belong,” he said.

Andrés said he will cast his first presidential ballot as a United States citizen for Clinton on Nov. 8.
