CNN’s Blitzer: Trump shouldn’t attack press

Donald Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, will talk to the GOP presidential nominee about his treatment of the press, she said Tuesday.

{mosads}In an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Conway said she will convey Blitzer’s concerns about Trump’s treatment of the press but maintained that some don’t report on the campaign fairly.

“The working journalists who are traveling with them all the time — they go to all these rallies, they’re in this pen, he points to them — he sort of eggs the crowd on to go after them. There are a lot of young journalists,” Blitzer said to Conway.

“He shouldn’t be doing that. Can you talk to him and say to him, ‘Mr. Trump, we only have a few days left. These are hardworking, young journalists and they deserve to have some security, if you will.’ Because some of those Trump supporters get pretty nasty out there.”

Conway responded: “To your first point, yes, I will tell him that, and he’s probably watching right now.”

Conway then reiterated her claim that “85 to 90 percent” of embedded reporters’ tweets are “negative toward Donald Trump.”

“So I think the responsibility has to go both ways. But you’re right, I am open press, I believe in a free press, and I believe in an honest press.”

Blitzer pushed back, saying he worried there could be an “ugly incident involving reporters and Trump supporters.”

“It worries me every time I heard that, and I hear these stories from these journalists and they’re scared,” he said.

Conway responded, “I appreciate you saying that, and it will be conveyed. But they need to be fair.”
