House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is dismissing accusations that House Republicans don’t sufficiently back Donald Trump for president.
{mosads}”We are going to keep this House, we need to elect Donald Trump president,” McCarthy told “Fox and Friends” on Tuesday.
“We know wind is in our face, that supporting Donald Trump, supporting our members of Congress — we are in a fight. This is a direction of what we want to change [in] this country … and the only choice is — are you for Hillary or are you for Donald?” he continued.
McCarthy cited the importance of the Supreme Court and concern about Hillary Clinton’s performance as secretary of State as keys to his support for Trump.
“So it’s no doubt where we stand and what we are fighting for.”
Several former and current Republican lawmakers have said that they would not be voting for Trump in November.
That number grew substantially after the release of 2005 tape revealing Trump speaking vulgarly about groping women.
Trump has publicly apologized for his comments, but criticized the Republicans who retracted their support.
