Trump will cut ribbon on DC hotel Wednesday

GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump will be in the nation’s capital on Wednesday for a ribbon cutting ceremony at his new hotel.

The event at the Trump International Hotel in the Old Post Office will take place at 11 a.m. and is closed to the general public.

The grand opening of the much-talked about hotel comes less than two weeks before Election Day, as the GOP nominee trails Democrat Hillary Clinton in national polls.

Trump was at the hotel in September, for a highly publicized press conference he said would put to rest his stance on President Obama’s birth place.

But after a very short speech announcing that he believes President Obama was born in the U.S., a reversal from years of questioning Obama’s citizenship, Trump left the room, refusing to take any questions from the reporters.

News anchors complained about the press conference at the time, arguing Trump tricked the media into giving him free airtime for his new hotel.

The television reporters following him erased video of the hotel tour he led that day to protest being denied editorial access to the Republican nominee.

Staffers from the major TV networks made the decision to erase their footage after the campaign refused to allow a producer to join Trump on the tour of his new Washington, D.C.

Earlier this month, a group of hotel workers protested outside the building.

The Culinary Union is locked in a labor dispute with Trump over the right to organize employees of Trump Hotel Las Vegas, which is partially owned by the Republican presidential nominee.

The AFL-CIO, which represents the Culinary Union, is working to draw attention to the issue by organizing pickets outside Trump hotels in New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Honolulu.
