GOP senator voting for Trump despite rescinding endorsement

Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) said he plans to vote for Donald Trump for president despite withdrawing his support of the Republican nominee earlier this month.

{mosads}The Idaho senator said in a statement he plans to cast his ballot for Trump to prevent a Hillary Clinton presidency, according to The Associated Press.

Crapo rescinded his endorsement of the GOP nominee earlier this month after the release of a 2005 tape in which Trump is heard making lewd comments about women.

In the tape, Trump talks about how he can grope and kiss women without their consent because of his celebrity status.

At the time, Crapo joined a list of other Republicans who sought to distance themselves from the Republican nominee.

“I urge Donald Trump to step aside and allow the Republican party to put forward a conservative candidate like Mike Pence who can defeat Hillary Clinton,” the Idaho senator said in a statement.

In announcing his vote for Trump Monday, Crapo cited the importance of nominations to the Supreme Court, according to AP.
