GOP vice presidential nominee Mike Pence said Donald Trump is taking a “wait and see approach” before deciding to accept the results of the election.
{mosads}Pence’s comments come after the final 2016 presidential debate, held Wednesday night in Las Vegas, where Trump refused to say he would accept the results and instead keep the country in “suspense.”
“He’ll take a wait-and-see approach,” Pence told reporters in a post-debate interview aired on MSNBC.
The Indiana governor said he and Trump will continue to fight for “more balanced coverage” and make sure voters are respecting the electoral process. Pence says he’s “confident” they’ll accept the results if the process is “fair.”
“I have no doubt in my mind in the 20 days that remain in this campaign, we’re going to continue to call for more balanced coverage of this effort and we’re going to continue to call on people all across this country to respectfully participate in the electoral process to ensure we can all be confident in the vote.”
“If the vote is fair, I’m confident that we’ll accept it.”
For weeks, Trump has repeatedly warned of “rigged” elections and made allegations of widespread voter fraud.
Pence has previously said that the ticket will “absolutely” accept the results, and Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, said following the debate Wednesday that Trump would accept them “because he will win the election.”
