Report: 200M people now registered to vote in US
More than 200 million people are reportedly registered to vote for the first time in U.S. history.
{mosads}TargetSmart, a Democratic political data firm, says that the U.S. passed the 200 million threshold in recent days as North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada and New York reported updated voter numbers, according to a Wednesday report from Politico.
National registration is now at 200,081,377.
The report adds that only 146.3 million people were registered as recently as 2008.
According to TargetSmart, 42.6 percent of the voters who registered this year lean Democratic while 29 percent lean Republican. Another 28.4 percent are independent.
Registration in all 15 rated battleground states trended Democratic, the firm said.
Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign has been preparing for and predicting record-setting turnout at the polls.
