Donald Trump’s campaign manager said Wednesday that her inaccurate characterization of the GOP presidential nominee’s counter-terrorism policy as a “plan to defeat Islam” was the result of “sleep deprivation.”
{mosads}During a Wednesday morning interview with MSNBC, Kellyanne Conway made the error when summarizing Trump’s policy positions and proposals.
“He gave a 10-point veterans administration reform plan, five-point plan to defeat Islam, four-point plan for middle-class tax relief,” she said.
Conway told The Daily Beast later Wednesday that she was referring to Trump’s “five-point plan to defeat radical Islamic terrorism” and that she misspoke due to the rigors of a national campaign.
“He delivered a speech on it months ago and has discussed it many times since,” Conway said.
“All of this is in the context of who does and does not present specific solutions and plans publicly, even if they are not covered widely. Folks are free to reject or disagree with the plans but at least they can examine and assess them,” she added.
