Poll: Clinton leading Trump by 24 in NY
Democrat Hillary Clinton has a huge lead over Republican Donald Trump in New York, according to a Siena College poll released Wednesday.
{mosads}Clinton has 54 percent support to Trump’s 30 percent, the poll found. New York is the home state of both presidential nominees.
Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson received 5 percent, and Green Party nominee Jill Stein received 4 percent.
Clinton leads Trump by 31 points among women, by 75 points among blacks and by 49 points among Latinos, the poll found.
Throughout his presidential campaign, Trump has repeatedly said he could win New York, a traditionally blue state.
“Just so you understand, we are going to play New York. You know, we’re not just doing this for fun. We’re going to play New York,” Trump told the New York Conservative Party in September.
“We are going to play so hard and win. We are going to win this state. … It’s going to shock people, and by the way, you know if we win this state, it’s over. We win, OK? We win,” he added.
Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said the state “is poised to be a blue presidential state for the eighth consecutive election.”
“Clinton gets stronger support from Democrats than Trump gets from Republicans and Clinton has now opened a 17-point lead with independents, up from just two points last month,” he added.
“Clinton has a lopsided 56-point lead in New York City. She leads by nine points in the downstate suburbs and six points upstate.”
The Siena College poll surveyed a pool of 611 self-identified likely New York voters by telephone between October 13 and 17. The margin of error is 4.6 percentage points.
