McMullin: I wouldn’t be running ‘if Gary Johnson were a true libertarian’

Independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin on Friday slammed Gary Johnson, raising questions about the Libertarian nominee’s bona fides.

{mosads}”If Gary Johnson were a true libertarian, I probably wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing,” McMullin said, according to a video posted by The PolitiStick.

“But Gary Johnson is not a real libertarian. Some of his tax proposals and some of his ideas on religious liberty, they’re just not libertarian.”

McMullin questioned whether Johnson could actually serve as president.

“He’s been doing some very strange things on the campaign trail over the past few weeks that have me questioning his suitability for the presidency or any other position of real responsibility,” McMullin said.

Johnson raised eyebrows last month when he appeared not to know what the Syrian city of Aleppo was.

The Libertarian nominee was asked on MSNBC what he would do, if elected, about Aleppo.

“And what is Aleppo?” Johnson asked in response.

Johnson again prompted questions about his foreign policy knowledge when he struggled to name a single living foreign leader he admires.

“I guess I am having an Aleppo moment,” Johnson said during a town hall last month, when asked to name any foreign leader “of any country in any continent” he respects. He did not end up producing an answer.
