Clinton has 9-point lead over Trump in Virginia
Hillary Clinton has a 9-point lead over Donald Trump in Virginia, according to a Roanoke College poll released Tuesday.
{mosads}Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, is favored by 45 percent of likely voters in Virginia, while Trump, the Republican nominee, is backed by 36 percent. Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson has the support of 7 percent of likely voters, and independent Evan McMullin and Green Party nominee Jill Stein each have 1 percent.
Another 10 percent of likely voters are undecided.
In a head-to-head matchup, Clinton’s lead over Trump increases to 13 points, 51 percent to 38 percent.
The poll also finds that both candidates are viewed negatively by Virginia voters.
Clinton is viewed favorably by 39 percent of voters and unfavorably by 48 percent. Trump is viewed favorably by just 29 percent of voters and unfavorably by 47 percent.
The poll was conducted from Oct. 2 to 6 among 814 likely voters in Virginia. The margin of error is 3.4 percentage points. It was conducted before the release of a 2005 tape in which Trump made lewd comments about women.
According to the RealClearPolitics average of polls in Virginia, Clinton has a 7.5-point lead over Trump, 44.3 percent to 36.8 percent.
