Donald Trump has a 5-point lead over Hillary Clinton in Indiana, according to a new WTHR/HPI Indiana poll.
{mosads}Trump is favored by 43 percent of likely voters in the state, and Clinton is backed by 38 percent.
Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson has the support of 11 percent of voters. Another 8 percent are undecided.
Clinton has closed in slightly on Trump since a previous poll taken in early September. In that poll, Trump led Clinton by 7 points, 43 to 36 percent.
The recent poll also found 43 percent of Trump voters said they are voting for the GOP nominee because they can’t vote for Clinton. Among voters casting their ballots for Clinton, 35 percent said they are supporting the Democratic nominee because they can’t back Trump.
Trump has the support of 83 percent of Republicans in the home state of his running mate, Gov. Mike Pence, and Clinton is backed by 82 percent of Democrats, pollsters found.
Independents are divided between the candidates, with 38 percent supporting Trump and 33 percent backing Clinton. Another 21 percent of independent voters say they will vote for Johnson.
Trump has a significant lead over Clinton among men, 50 to 29 percent. The race is tighter among women, with Clinton holding a 7-point lead over her Republican rival, 45 to 38 percent.
Clinton also leads among voters ages 18-34, 43 to 30 percent. But the GOP nominee has an advantage among all other age groups.
The poll was conducted from Oct. 3 to 5 among 600 likely voters in Indiana. The margin of error is 4 percent.
