Poll: Clinton leads Trump by 10 points in battleground Pa.

Hillary Clinton has a 10-point lead over Republican rival Donald Trump in the swing state of Pennsylvania, a poll released Tuesday found.

{mosads}In the Monmouth University survey, Clinton leads 50 percent to 40 percent among likely voters.

Clinton (D) had an 8-point lead in Monmouth’s August poll of the state.

Another 5 percent support Libertarian Gary Johnson, and 2 percent back Jill Stein of the Green Party.

“Clinton has been blanketing the Pennsylvania airwaves with ads that highlight Trump’s controversial statements, particularly about women. They appear to have had an impact,” said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute.

White women in Pennsylvania support Clinton 55 percent to 35 percent.

Likely voters in Pennsylvania are also more like to see Clinton as the candidate who understands the concerns of typical voters.

Fifty-two percent said she understands them while 46 percent said she doesn’t. With Trump, only 38 percent said he understands the concerns of people like them, and 60 percent said he doesn’t.

“Connecting with the everyday concerns of voters is one key to winning over Pennsylvania voters. It looks like Clinton has been gaining the advantage on this metric,” Murray said.

Twice as many Pennsylvanians say Clinton has the right temperament for the job, 64 percent, compared with the 31 percent who say the same about Trump.

And likely voters in the state see Clinton more favorably than they did in August, but their opinion of Trump is slipping, the poll found.

Still, just 4 in 10 have a favorable view of Clinton, compared with 48 percent who don’t. But it’s an improvement over the 36 percent who had a favorable view of her in August, when 51 percent held an unfavorable view.

Only 27 percent have a favorable opinion of Trump, and 60 percent have an unfavorable view of him. That’s compared with 31 percent favorable and 54 percent unfavorable in August.

The poll was conducted by telephone from Sept. 30 to Oct. 3 among 402 Pennsylvania residents likely to vote in November. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.

In a RealClearPolitics polling average, Clinton holds a 5.4-point lead over Trump, 47.3 percent to 41.9 percent.
