Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson on Friday released a letter from his doctor, describing him as being in top physical fitness.
“He is extremely physically fit and healthy 63-year-old male,” says the letter from Dr. Lyle B. Ame.
{mosads}”Obviously, his decades of dedication to physical fitness, diet, no drinking, and no smoking have paid dividends as far as his current extraordinarily good health at this time of his life.”
Johnson’s high-profile use of marijuana was addressed separately by his spokesman Joe Hunter.
“He does not smoke marijuana,” Hunter told Politico. “And he does not use marijuana at all now. The rare and more recent use so widely reported was an ‘edible.'”
Throughout his life, Johnson has climbed some of the highest mountains in the world, competed in 17 marathons and 4 Ironman Triathlons, according to a statement from his campaign.
The letter also stated that not all of the medical tests have been completed, including lab work, bone density and other health indicators.
Johnson also suffers from the Celiac Disease, a genetic autoimmune disorder that forces him to be on a gluten-free diet.
The letter noted that Johnson “feels well” and concludes by recommending a “stress echo… to get a baseline given his extreme fitness and high level aerobic exercise.”
All the major party candidates and their running mates have released similar letters from their doctors.
