National poll: Clinton leads by 4 points

Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 4 points ahead of the pair’s first debate Monday, according to the latest Reuters/Ipsos tracking poll.

Clinton is supported by 41 percent of likely voters in the survey released Friday, while Trump has 37 percent support.

{mosads}The Democratic and Republican nominees were locked at 39 percent each in the Reuters/Ipsos poll from earlier this week.

That survey also had Trump leading by 2 points in a four-way matchup, though Friday’s poll shows Clinton now with a slim lead in that scenario.

In a four-way matchup, Clinton holds a 2-point lead over Trump, 39 to 37 percent.

In that scenario, Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson draws 7 percent — about half the support necessary to get on stage for the remaining two debates after Monday — while Green Party nominee Jill Stein has 2 percent.

Four other polls released recently have shown Clinton leading by single digits, while one survey had Trump leading.

Reuters reported that some 22 percent of likely voters say they don’t support either major-party candidate, putting added pressure on Monday’s debate.

That’s more than double the percentage of uncommitted voters at the same point in the 2012 race between President Obama and Mitt Romney, Reuters said.

The survey of 1,559 likely voters was conducted online Sept. 16–22 with a credibility interval of 3 percentage points.
