Poll: Clinton leads by 6 in four-way matchup

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is leading Republican Donald Trump by 6 points nationally, according to the latest McClatchy/Marist poll released Friday.

{mosads}Clinton has 45 percent support among likely voters, while Trump claims 39 percent. Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson carries 10 percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein is at 4 percent.

In a two-way matchup, Clinton holds a similar lead, outpacing Trump by 7 points, 48 percent to 41 percent.

Her lead rests on voters’ view of her experience and temperament. Likely voters say 57 percent to 30 percent that the former secretary of State has the knowledge to be president. They also say 50 percent to 38 percent that she has a better temperament than Trump.

They prefer Clinton’s policy proposals over the billionaire businessman’s as well. Voters favor her on immigration by 13 points, creating good jobs by 6 points, trade by 10 points and handling terrorism by 11 points.

However, voters’ concern about Clinton’s trustworthiness remains.

Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute, said, “clearly the stakes couldn’t be any higher for either of them” in Monday’s first presidential debate.

“You wouldn’t bet for Clinton,” Miringoff, said. “But you certainly wouldn’t bet against her at this time.”

Results are based on 758 likely voters surveyed between Sept. 15-20. The poll has a margin of error of 3.6 points.
