Poll: Clinton has slim lead in Wisconsin

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton holds a narrow lead over Republican nominee Donald Trump in Wisconsin, a state carried by Democrats in both 2008 and 2012, in a new poll.

A Marquette University Law School poll released Wednesday found Clinton leading Trump by 2 points among likely voters, 44 percent to 42 percent.

{mosads}When the voter sample includes registered voters, Clinton’s lead widens by a few points, to 43 percent to 38 percent, while 15 percent would vote for neither candidate.

In a four-way race, Clinton holds a 3-point lead over Trump, 41 percent to 38 percent. Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson takes 11 percent support, while Green Party nominee Jill Stein gets 2 percent. Seven percent remain undecided.

Clinton’s slim lead in September is pretty close to her small advantage in last month’s survey. The August poll had Clinton leading Trump by 3 points among likely voters.

In the U.S. Senate race in the Badger State, former Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold leads GOP Sen. Ron Johnson by 6 points, 47 percent to 41 percent, among likely voters. This is a 3-point increase for Feingold since the August poll.

The poll was conducted Sept. 15–18 and surveyed 802 registered voters, including 677 likely voters, via phone. The margin of error for the full sample was 4.4 percentage points, and for the likely voters sample was 4.8 percentage points.
