Donald Trump Jr. on Saturday sought to clarify that his father had not been using the self-coined term “bigly” as his go-to adverb at campaign rallies.
{mosads}Trump Jr. insisted that Donald Trump is in fact saying “big league.”
The GOP presidential nominee’s son posted an image on Instagram of a t-shirt that read “Speak Softly and Vote BIGLY.”
“For the record he’s saying BIG LEAGUE. But I like Bigly too,” Trump Jr. wrote. “Maybe we need to call Websters.”
Donald Trump’s frequent use of the term in campaign speeches — and his distinctive accent and speaking style — led many to believe he was saying “bigly” to mean hugely or very successfully.
The phrase gained popularity on social media, spawning its own hashtag, which was used both by admirers as well as detractors seeking to mock Trump.
