Trump hits Clinton for ‘deplorables’ comment in new ad

Donald Trump’s campaign on Monday released a new ad hitting Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton for her comments that half of the Republican nominee’s supporters could be categorized in a “basket of deplorables.”

{mosads}The 30-second ad will start airing Monday and is supported by a $2 million ad buy in Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Florida, CNN reported.

At the beginning of the ad, a narrator says, “Speaking to wealthy donors, Hillary Clinton called tens of millions of Americans ‘deplorable.’ ”

The ad plays a clip of Clinton’s comment, which she made during a fundraiser last week.

“You could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the ‘basket of deplorables.’ The racists, sexists, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, you name it,” Clinton says.

“You know what’s deplorable? Hillary Clinton viciously demonizing hard-working people like you,” the narrator says at the end of the ad.

On Saturday, Clinton expressed regret for her comment.

“Last night I was ‘grossly generalistic,’ and that’s never a good idea. I regret saying ‘half’ — that was wrong,” Clinton said in a statement released Saturday.

“But let’s be clear, what’s really ‘deplorable’ is that Donald Trump hired a major advocate for the so-called ‘alt-right’ movement to run his campaign and that David Duke and other white supremacists see him as a champion of their values.”

The GOP nominee on Monday morning called Clinton’s comments the “single biggest mistake of the political season.”
