Dubai security chief: Trump will create ‘clash of civilizations’

A top security official in the United Arab Emirates on Friday predicted a Donald Trump presidency would escalate conflict between Western nations and Muslims in the Middle East.

Lt. Gen. Dhani Khalfan Tamim paraphrased political scientist Samuel P. Huntington’s theory about future wars erupting between cultures in analyzing Trump, according to The Associated Press.

{mosads}“If Trump beats [Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton] that means that the clash of civilizations created by Samuel will come to light at the hands of the candidate and [ISIS leader Abu Bakr] al-Baghdadi,” tweeted Tamim, the deputy chairman of police and general security in Dubai.

Tamim was addressing Trump’s assertion last Wednesday night that “Islam hates us” and that there’s little clearly distinguishing moderate and radical Muslims.

“There’s an unbelievable hatred of us,” the GOP presidential front-runner said. “It’s radical, but it’s very hard to define; it’s very hard to separate because you don’t know who’s who.”

The AP reported on Friday that Trump’s repeatedly harsh criticism of Islam is inspiring fierce backlash in the UAE and other Muslim countries.

The Landmark Group, a Dubai-based company, announced last December that it was removing Trump-branded products from its 180 Lifestyle stores across the Middle East over the billionaire’s remarks, AP said.

“[The Landmark Group] values and respects the sentiments of its customers,” the company said in making its decision.

Trump has stamped his name on two major golf course projects in Dubai, the AP added, and has also long desired expanding his hotel chain in the UAE’s capital city.

“To think that a man … whose knowledge of geography, history and theology is nonexistent may reach the Oval Office is terrifying and deeply concerning,” the Lebanon Daily Star wrote on Friday.

“A Trump White House would be detrimental to the American people, but as commander in chief of the world’s most powerful country, his reach will affect millions more. It is no wonder that the world recoils from this prospect, and one can only hope that the United States will do so too.”
