Mass. governor: Cruz, Trump unfit for president

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker said Friday that neither Donald Trump nor Ted Cruz deserves the Oval Office.

“With respect to Donald Trump, I just think he has a lack of experience in this space,” the Republican governor said, according to The Boston Herald.

{mosads}“I just find his temperament and his sense of purpose to not be conducive to succeeding as president,” Baker said of Trump.

“On Ted Cruz, he is already a forceful and articulate advocate for his point of view. But he hasn’t demonstrated an ability to work with others.”

Baker then explained why he is endorsing Chris Christie in the GOP primary instead.

“I would really like to see the nominee be somebody who has the kinds of experience and can demonstrate an ability to work across the aisle,” he said before formally backing his fellow governor. “Track record on this stuff matters. It was important … to speak out on that.”

Baker did have kind words for some of Christie’s other rivals for the Republican nomination, however.

He praised John Kasich for his “terrific job” in Ohio, for example, while also lauding Jeb Bush’s “very positive” tenure as governor of Florida.

Marco Rubio, Baker added, had an “important and complicated job in a big state” as the former Speaker of Florida’s House of Representatives.

Baker and Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito will campaign for Christie on Saturday in Bedford, N.H., the Herald reported.

The pair’s support gives Christie a credibility boost heading into next Tuesday’s primary there. Christie has heavily focused his campaign’s energy on the Granite State before the pivotal contest.

He trails Trump by about 26 points there, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls.
