Sen. Tim Scott to endorse Rubio

South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott (R) is expected to endorse Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) for president on Tuesday, according to a report from Politico.

Scott would be Rubio’s second congressional endorsement from South Carolina. Rubio also has the support of Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), the chairman of the House committee investigating the 2012 Benghazi attacks.

{mosads}Scott is the only black Republican in the U.S. Senate, and his endorsement could give Rubio a boost in the first Southern primary state.

Rubio has the support of 28 lawmakers, according to The Hill’s tally of congressional endorsements. That’s good for second place, behind former Gov. Jeb Bush (Fla.), with 31.

Lindsey Graham, South Carolina’s other senator who ended his own presidential bid in December, is backing Bush.
