Cruz: Unlike Trump, I’ll never ‘have a plane with my name on it’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) jabbed Donald Trump Friday by noting he would never own a jet like the billionaire businessman.

“I feel confident that I’m never going to have a plane with my name on it,” Cruz said, according to CNN.

{mosads}Cruz suggested Trump, who is leading national polls of the Republican race, is not spending enough time interacting with voters on the campaign trail.

“How do you run a grassroots campaign?” Cruz asked at a church in Iowa.

“You don’t do it from a TV studio in Manhattan [and with] slick Hollywood TV ads,” Cruz said.

“You don’t do it sitting back from the easy chair. It’s very time intensive. It’s labor intensive.”

Trump’s Boeing 757 is a common sight on the 2016 campaign trail, as he often uses it for travel between public events. 

The distinctive craft bears the real estate tycoon’s name on its side. It also boasts a silk-lined master bedroom, a 57-inch television and 24-karat gold seatbelt buckles.

Cruz’s remarks come amid his 30-day bus tour of Iowa ahead of the early voting state’s caucuses on Feb. 1.

He currently leads Trump by 4 points in the Hawkeye State, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of samplings, and is hoping a victory there could propel him forward in the Republican race.

Trump nonetheless has the edge on Cruz and other Republican contenders nationwide. The business mogul leads the GOP’s 2016 field by over 15 percent, per the latest RealClearPolitics index of polls.

Trump began questioning Cruz’s eligibility for the presidency earlier this week, noting his Canadian birthplace. Cruz has countered that concerns over his citizenship are a “silly sideshow” given his mother is American.
