HuffPost moves Trump to politics section after Muslim comments
The Huffington Post will be moving it’s coverage of Donald Trump to it’s politics section, editor-in-chief Arianna Huffington wrote on its website.
The announcement to move the Republican presidential front-runner from entertainment to politics comes after Trump called for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States” on Monday.
{mosads}“Back in July, we announced our decision to put our coverage of Trump’s presidential campaign in our Entertainment section instead of our Politics section,” Huffington wrote.
The news organization saw Trump’s campaign as a “sideshow,” the co-founder of Huffington Post explained.
“Trump’s campaign has certainly lived up to that billing,” Huffington added. “But as today’s vicious pronouncement makes abundantly clear, it’s also morphed into something else: an ugly and dangerous force in American politics.”
Huffington said many in the media have been legitimizing Trump’s “ugly views” by “not calling out Trump’s campaign for what it is.”
“If Trump’s words and actions are racist, we’ll call them racist,” she wrote. “If they’re sexist, we’ll call them sexist. We won’t shrink from the truth or be distracted by the showmanship.”
Trump made his controversial comments following deadly terror attacks Paris, for which the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria has claimed credit, and in San Bernardino, Calif., where the FBI says the two alleged shooters had been “radicalized for quite some time,” CNN reports.
The billionaire’s remarks were widely condemned by lawmakers of both parties.
