Joy Behar: Clinton wrong to laugh at remark about strangling Fiorina

Comedian Joy Behar says Hillary Clinton was wrong to laugh when an audience member said he wanted to “strangle” GOP presidential contender Carly Fiorina.

“Let’s be fair — if someone had said that to Donald Trump and he had laughed, we would be ripping him a new one,” Behar said on ABC’s “The View” on Wednesday.

{mosads}”She should have stood up to him. I’m sorry, I have to say that.”

Several other “View” co-hosts agreed with Behar.

“We held Carly Fiorina to a certain standard and [we] expected her to stop that voter in his or her tracks,” said co-host Paula Faris.

“The same thing with Donald Trump when they were saying President Obama was a Muslim,” she said, referencing incidents involving supporters at Trump rallies earlier this year.

“We’re talking about violence against a woman,” Faris added. “We’re talking about strangling a woman here. We always talk about women standing up for other women, so she’s got to stand up for the only other female that’s out there.”

“She did a human reaction right after it,” co-host Raven-Symoné said of Clinton’s laughter.

“She understood the room, but at the same time, it’s how you come back after you laugh, like, ‘you know what, that wasn’t actually funny,’ ” she added.

Clinton chuckled Tuesday when a crowd member suggested he would “strangle” Fiorina if he could.

“Every time I see her on TV, I want to reach through and strangle her,” he said.

“I wouldn’t mess with you,” Clinton replied, chortling along with the crowd.

The audience member described himself as a former systems engineer for Hewlett-Packard laid off during Fiorina’s tenure as CEO there.

The defense of Fiorina by the “View” co-hosts was also notable amid the GOP contender’s feud with the show’s panel.

Co-host Michelle Collins joked that Fiorina’s smile looked “demented” during last month’s third GOP presidential debate in Boulder, Colo.

Fiorina returned to the show to face the panelists over those comments earlier this month.

Fiorina faced criticism of her own earlier this year for not correcting an audience member who called Obama a “black Muslim.”
