Huckabee: Dems ‘ignored’ traditional marriage laws

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark.) said on Sunday that Kentucky is unfairly jailing a woman following her refusal to issue same-sex marriage licenses there.
Huckabee added that a double standard exists.
{mosads}“Why people are so angry across the country not just on this issue but on others is that the ruling class has thumbed their very nose at the Constitution,” he told host George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week.”
“You’ve got Democrats who ignored the law when it was the law to have traditional marriage,” said Huckabee, a 2016 GOP presidential candidate.
“Gavin Newsom in San Francisco as mayor performed same-sex weddings even though it was illegal,” he said of the Republican. “Did he ever get put in jail? He most certainly did not.”
“You have Barack Obama and Eric Holder, when he was attorney general,” Huckabee said. “They ignored the rulings of [the Defense of Marriage Act]. Did they ever get put in jail for ignoring the law? They most certainly did not.”
“So when is it that liberals get to choose what laws they support, but a county clerk in Kentucky who, acting on her Christian faith, is criminalized, jailed without bail, because acted on her conscience and according to the only law that is in front of her?” Huckabee asked.
U.S. Marshalls took Rowan County clerk Kim Davis into custody last Thursday for being in contempt of court.
Davis has repeatedly refused issuing same-sex marriage certificates, arguing that it violates her Christian beliefs.
Rowan County’s other clerks began recognizing the practice with licenses issued Friday after Davis’s imprisonment.
