The chief executive of the Heritage Action for America super-PAC said on Sunday that the nation’s political elite is not serving everyday citizens.
Michael Needham added that voters are fighting back by boosting outsider presidential contenders during the 2016 White House race so far.
{mosads}“The political class is failing this nation,” Needham told host Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday.”
“That’s what all of these outsider candidates – Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina, Donald Trump – are tapping into,” he added. “That’s what people are rebelling against.”
Needham argued on Sunday that Americans are increasingly jaded by business-as-usual in the nation’s capital.
They are rejecting a political establishment that is thriving without hearing their concerns, he added.
“One of the great myths is that Washington is broken,” Needham said.
“The fundamental question of any of these candidates is, ‘Do you know Washington is a swamp and are you coming to drain it,’ ” he asked.
“That’s why you are seeing all these outsider candidates take off,” he said of the GOP’s 2016 presidential field. “All of them are absolutely in touch with Republican conservative populist primary voters.”
New York business mogul Donald Trump is leading the race for the Republican coronation next year across multiple national polls.
The latest RealClearPolitics average of U.S. samplings has him in first place with 23.5 percent of voter support.
Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, trails the outspoken billionaire in second place with 10.3 percent.
Fiorina, a former Hewlett-Packard CEO, is seventh with 6 percent voter support nationwide.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), meanwhile, is shrinking Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton’s lead in multiple national polls.
