Fiorina: I’ll run on business record ‘all day long’

Carly Fiorina, the former Hewlett-Packard chief executive, defended her business record in an interview that aired Sunday, insisting she “will run on that track record all day long.” 

HP fired Fiorina, the only woman running for the GOP presidential nomination, a decade ago after roughly six years atop the tech giant.

{mosads}Fiorina, who rose in the polls following her performance at the first GOP debate, has blamed her firing on a downturn in the economy that affected technology companies early this century. But some business analysts have said that HP’s merger with Compaq, completed under Fiorina’s watch, is still hurting the company 15 years later.

“It was vastly more profitable when I left it than when I found it. We went from lagging behind to leading in every product category and every market segment,” Fiorina said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Fiorina later added that she would ensure that minorities and women would be interviewed for senior positions if she were president, following her policy of always interviewing women for top slots at HP.

“That’s how you get a meritocracy,” Fiorina said. “When you build an environment in which merit is rewarded, that it’s not about seniority, like it is in the federal government.”
