Paul ‘happy to dissolve’ United Nations

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) told a group of guns rights activists in New Hampshire on Wednesday that he’d be “happy to dissolve” the United Nations.

“I dislike paying for something that two-bit Third World countries with no freedom attack us and complain about the United States,” Paul said, according to a RealClearPolitics report. “There’s a lot of reasons why I don’t like the U.N., and I think I’d be happy to dissolve it.”

Speaking at a “Second Amendment Supporters Event” at the Londonderry Fish & Game Club in New Hampshire, Paul said the U.S. pays for “a huge chunk” of the U.N.’s spending, according to the report. Paul has in the past been critical of U.S. aid to the multinational body.

Paul’s father, former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), on several occasions introduced legislation to pull the U.S. out of the U.N.

Paul was in the Granite State on Wednesday for a day full of meetings with business leaders, political leaders and activists ahead of a potential run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016.
