Priebus: ‘I sure as heck hope we’re running against Hillary’
Hillary Clinton is Democrats’ presumed front-runner for 2016 — and that’s just how Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus wants it.
{mosads}”I sure as heck hope we’re running against Hillary Clinton,” Priebus declared Friday morning at a breakfast hosted by the Christian Science Monitor. “What you just saw Tuesday night is about as flat a performance as you could have ever seen from the Democrat Party’s brightest star.”
Priebus tweaked Clinton for her party’s poor performance in this week’s elections, pointing to a number of cases where she stepped up as a surrogate for Democrats who then lost.
“When Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton tried to come in the last 60 days to be the face of the Democrat Party, that didn’t do anything to move the dial either,” Priebus said. “These were the president’s candidates and they also were the Clintons’ candidates and they lost. The Clintons were campaigning hard, and they couldn’t save their candidates even in blue states. I think in Arkansas Tom Cotton was declared the winner at about 8:01 by The Associated Press.”
Priebus also suggested he’s leaning towards remaining in his current role through the 2016 presidential elections so he can keep antagonizing the Clintons.
“I’ll probable decide in the first week of December, but I’m leaning to doing it again,” he said before pausing a second and grimacing a bit.
“I haven’t really had that serious conversation at home. Yeah. I guess it’s going to happen tonight,” he said with a laugh.
