Reid: Senate wouldn’t confirm Romney for dogcatcher
Reid delivered his latest slam on Romney in the wake of a Boston Globe report raising questions about when the presumptive GOP nominee left Bain Capital.
The Globe reported Romney owned 100 percent of Bain Capital in 2002 and earned $100,000 in executive pay from Bain in 2001 and 2002, citing state financial disclosure forms.
{mosads}Romney claimed he resigned from Bain in February 1999 to run the winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. The timing is significant because it bears on the question of whether he was responsible for layoffs at Bain companies after February 1999.
The Obama campaign on Thursday accused Romney of lying about his history at Bain. Stephanie Cutter, Obama’s deputy campaign manager, told reporters the presumptive GOP nominee is trying to mislead voters to avoid responsibility for the consequences of his investment decisions.
The Romney campaign has responded by asserting Romney did not have managerial control of Bain after leaving to take over the Olympics and citing supporting reports by independent fact checkers backing that assertion.

Reid on Tuesday blasted Romney for not publicizing more than one year of his tax records, even though his father, George Romney, revealed tax documents spanning 12 years when he ran for president in 1968.
“Mitt Romney talks about this great family he comes from, and I acknowledge it is, but why doesn’t he follow the example set by his father and release his tax returns?” Reid said.
