WV poll: Sanders leads Clinton nearly 2-to-1
A new poll shows Bernie Sanders leading rival Hillary Clinton by nearly two-to-one in West Virginia.
Sanders has 57 percent support, while Clinton takes 29 percent, according to the MetroNews West Virginia poll.
Sanders’s strength is among 18- to 34-year-olds, but he has majority support among all age groups except seniors.
Among voters 65 and older in the state, Sanders leads Clinton 43 percent to 36 percent.
Clinton beat President Obama handily in the West Virginia primary in 2008, where race was an important factor for voters.
West Virginia’s primary is May 10.
The poll was conducted Feb. 11-16 and surveyed 411 registered likely voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percent.
