Poll: Obama up three in Nevada, tie in Colorado

A new poll found a tight race between President Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney among likely voters in two crucial battleground states. 

The Wall Street Journal/NBC News/Marist poll released Thursday found Obama and Romney tied in Colorado with the support of 48 percent of likely voters each. In Nevada, the poll found Obama barely beating Romney, 50 to 47 percent, among likely voters.

{mosads}Among registered voters, Obama leads Romney in Colorado, 48 to 47 percent. In Nevada, like in Colorado, Obama also leads Romney among registered voters, but by a wider margin. The poll found 51 percent of registered voters in Colorado support Obama while 45 percent support Romney.

By contrast, in September, right after the Democratic National Convention, the Wall Street Journal/NBC News/Marist poll found Obama leading Romney in Colorado 50 to 45 percent. Among registered voters in September, Obama also led Romney, 50 to 44 percent, in Colorado.

In September, Obama led Romney, 49 to 47 percent, among likely Nevada voters and 51 to 44 percent among registered voters in the state, the poll found.

On job approval, the margin has widened in Obama’s favor in Nevada, the poll found. Fifty percent of likely voters said they approve of the job Obama is doing, up from 47 percent in September. By contrast, 46 percent said they disapprove of the poll Obama is doing, down from 49 percent in September. An equal amount of registered voters — 47 percent — approved and disapproved of Obama’s job performance in September. But the most recent poll found 51 percent of registered voters approved of the job Obama is doing while 45 percent disapproved.

In Colorado, 48 percent of likely voters said they approve of the job Obama is doing while 49 percent said they disapproved. In September, the poll found 47 percent said they approved of the job Obama is doing while 48 percent said they disapproved. But among registered voters in Colorado, 49 percent approve of the job Obama is doing while 47 percent disapprove, the poll found. The poll’s findings come less than two weeks ahead of Election Day. The poll was conducted on Oct. 23 and Oct. 24. The margin of error for Nevada was plus or minus 3 percentage points while the margin of error for Colorado was plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.
