Poll: Romney holds narrow lead in Florida
Mitt Romney is narrowly ahead of President Obama in the critical swing-state of Florida, according to a Scripps-WPTV News poll released Sunday.
The survey of 800 likely voters shows Romney taking 48 percent support over Obama at 47. The poll was conducted by Democratic-affiliated Public Policy Polling on Wednesday and Thursday, following the second presidential debate in New York.
{mosads}Surprisingly, Hispanics favored Romney in the poll, 49 to 46. Obama leads big among Hispanics nationally, but Florida’s Cuban population leans Republican and boosts Romney in the poll.
Independents are split in the poll, with 47 going for Obama and 46 for Romney.
Republicans have become increasingly confident that Romney’s recent surge in the polls has locked in three key southern swing states for the GOP ticket – Florida, North Carolina and Virginia.

Still, Romney’s lead in Florida remains small. He leads Obama 48.7 to 46.6 in the Sunshine State, according to the Real Clear Politics average of polls.
The poll has a 4-point margin of error.
