Poll: 4 in 5 say most lawmakers deserve boot

Only 19 percent of registered voters say that most members of Congress deserve to be reelected, according to a new Gallup poll released Monday.

That figure is the second lowest since Gallup first started asking the question in 1992, and voters are on pace to give lawmakers their lowest marks on that score in a midterm election year.

{mosads}Most voters though are not as negative about the performance of their own lawmaker. Fifty percent say their representative deserves reelection, lower than in past years but still above the record low of 46 percent earlier this year.

Among those who support reelecting their own lawmaker, 29 percent say their representative is “doing a good job.” Eighteen percent say they stand up for their district with 6 percent of voters saying their representative shares their values.

Among those who don’t believe their lawmakers deserves reelection, 26 percent say they are not doing their job. Fifteen percent say their representatives have been there too long, and 12 percent say their lawmaker does not represent their district well.
