Two polls show Mitt Romney holding a 2-point lead over President Obama, as the two candidates prep for this week’s pivotal second debate.
The latest Gallup daily tracking poll shows Romney ahead of the president with 49 percent support to 47, among likely voters, an advantage at the survey’s 2 point margin of error.
{mosads}Romney has held the 2-point edge since Friday, maintaining a bounce since the first debate between the two candidates on Oct. 3, a face-off Romney was widely seen as having won.
Since that win, polls have shown Romney narrowing the gap to a statistical dead heat against Obama in many key swing states and vaulting to the lead in several national polls.
The Romney edge was also mirrored in the latest Rasmussen tracking poll released Sunday, which also showed the GOP nominee with a 49-47 edge. In the Rasmussen survey, as well, Romney was boosted to the lead by his strong debate performance and has held on.
Rasmussen says 2 percent surveyed prefer another candidate with another 2 undecided.
Vice President Joe Biden and Romney running mate Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) held their sole debate on Thursday.
Obama and Romney will participate in a town-hall style debate hosted by CNN’s Candy Crowley on Tuesday at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. A third debate focused on foreign policy will be held Oct. 22 in Boca Raton, Fla.
