Weiner lagging in latest poll
{mosads}The New York Times/Siena College poll had the former congressman mustering just 10 percent support from Democratic primary voters, marking an additional drop from his 16 percent support in a July 29 poll. City Council Speaker Christine Quinn leads with 26 percent, followed by former comptroller William Thompson at 16 percent and public advocate Bill de Blasio at 14 percent.
With the primary just a month away, none of the candidates were close to the 40 percent threshold needed to avoid a runoff.

Weiner was leading the Democratic primary race until he admitted in July that the lurid text messages and photos that forced him from Congress in 2011 had continued into at least the summer of 2012. Since then, he has been dogged by further crises, such as his campaign manager’s resignation and condemnation brought on when he referred to Republican mayoral candidate George McDonald as “grandpa.”
Eliot Spitzer, a former New York governor who was also brought down by a sex scandal, was leading his opponent Scott Stringer 44 percent to 35 percent in the Democratic primary for comptroller.
The poll was conducted between Aug. 2-7, with a sample of 505 registered Democrats and a margin of error of 4 percent.
